Grupo Salinas and Fundacion Azteca's Third Annual Limpiemos Nuestro Mexico Cleanup Campaign is a Smashing Success Thanks to Over Three Million Volunteers

-- Over 17,000 Metric Tons of Garbage Were Collected and Separated in the Largest Cleanup Effort in Mexican History in Conjunction with Mexico's Education Ministry, Environmental Ministry and Grupo Bimbo --

MEXICO CITY, June 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- A combined effort to raise consciousness regarding trash and lead volunteers to action was a solid success thanks to efforts by Grupo Salinas' Fundacion Azteca, Mexico's Environmental Ministry, the Education Ministry and Grupo Bimbo during the third annual Limpiemos Nuestro Mexico cleanup campaign.

Environmental consciousness is important. However, decisive action by private enterprise, civil society and the government is the key to success. These three pillars of Mexican society took to the streets on Sunday, June 5, to cleanup Mexico's forests, schools, beaches, parks, streets, rivers and more.

Grupo Salinas Chairman Ricardo B. Salinas Pliego, Environmental Minister Juan Rafael Elvira, Education Minister Alonso Lujambio, Grupo Bimbo CEO Javier Gonzalez Franco and Fundacion Azteca Executive Chairman Esteban Moctezuma Barragan presented the results following a recollection effort that included 3,312,000 volunteers throughout the country, who were part of 82, 500 brigades that collected and separated 17,000 metric tons of garbage in four hours.

Limpiemos Nuestro Mexico continues to consolidate as a national movement, with over 50% more participants than last year and twice the tonnage of garbage collected.

Part of the campaign includes awareness regarding the three "Rs" of recycling plus one: Reduce, Reutiliza, Recicla y Recoge in Spanish, which translates to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Pick Up.
