Xatori Inc. Announces Its PlugShare App is Now Available in Canada

App Expands into High Electric Vehicle Adoption Market

PALO ALTO, Calif.,May 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Xatori, Inc., an electric vehicle software company, today announced that its flagship app, PlugShare, is now available in Canada. Users can download the application from the Apple iTunes store, sign up as members, share their private outlets as well as public outlets, and access information for over 2,500 charging stations currently listed on the network. In the United States, PlugShare has a network of over 15,000 users and over 2,500 charging stations to date, making it the nation's largest charging network. PlugShare allows iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch owners in the United States and now Canada to share their outlets. Members can choose to share 240v J1772 plugs (compatible with the latest generation of EVs, such as the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt) or standard 120v outlets. PlugShare also includes an up-to-date listing of public charging stations.

According to the 2009 report "Electric Vehicle Technology Roadmap" prepared by the Industry Steering Committee, an industry government group with federal government support, Canada's federal goal is to have at least 500,000 highway capable PEVs on the road by 2018. Additionally, according to Pike Research, "Canada has advantages over the U.S. in promoting EVs. The country, especially in British Columbia, which boasts approximately 80% of power from renewable resources, can more easily justify the move to EVs to reduce carbon emissions. EV owners can also expect to save even more on transportation "fuel" since the relative cost of gasoline (near $4 per gallon U.S.) to electricity is much higher. This will considerably shorten the payback period for fleets and consumers to switch from an ICE to an EV."

Pike Research notes, "Only Ontario has established incentives for purchasing EVs (between $5,000 and $8,500), while the government of British Columbia is reportedly considering establishing a consumer incentive. Vancouver does has[sic] a very progressive law towards EV charging readiness, as it enacted legislation that requires 20% of all new residential parking spots to include wiring that can accommodate EV charging."

Since Xatori's launch in March of 2011, the company has added additional functionality to the PlugShare app, including the ability for users to add and edit public charging stations in the network. This functionality has previously only been available online, making PlugShare the first mobile app with this feature.
