WDIV-TV Local 4 News Delivers Dominating Wins at 6pm and 11pm
Local 4 News Reigns As #1 Evening News and #1 Late News in Detroit
DETROIT, May 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- WDIV-TV Local 4 News scored dominating wins at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. in the May 2011 Nielsen ratings period of the Detroit television market to reign as Detroit's #1 evening news and #1 late news.
In the 6-6:30 p.m. time period, Local 4 News at 6 p.m. finished #1 in household ratings scoring a 7.8 household rating and a 16 share (compared to WXYZ 7.0 RTG, 15 SHR and WJBK 4.2 RTG, 9 SHR). In addition, Local 4 News at 6 p.m. won in the key demographics of women ages 25-54 with a 3.5 rating and 14 share, showing significant growth with a striking 25% increase in W 25-54 ratings over the previous year (compared to WXYZ 3.2 RTG, 12 SHR and WJBK 2.9 RTG, 11 SHR).
Local 4 News at 11 p.m. dominated all local newscasts with the highest ratings of news on any station, in any time-period. In May, the late news leader anchored by Carmen Harlan, Devin Scillian, Chuck Gaidica and Bernie Smilovitz, garnered an 8.8 household rating and a 16 share (compared to WXYZ 7.8 RTG, 14 SHR, WJBK 10pm 8.4 RTG, 13 SHR, and WJBK 11pm M-F 5.4 RTG, 10 SHR). In addition, Local 4 News at 11 p.m. topped all late newscasts of NBC affiliates in the top 10 markets nationwide.
In the morning news time period of 6-7 a.m., Local 4 News Morning continued to show significant growth, finishing a strong second in the key demographic of women 25-54 with a 3.2 rating and 19 share to beat WXYZ by 52% in ratings and 58% share. (WXYZ 2.1 RTG, 12 SHR and WJBK 4.2 RTG, 25 SHR). In adults 25-54, Local 4 News Morning garnered a 2.2 rating and a 14 share (compared to WXYZ 1.8 RTG, 12 SHR and WJBK 3.4 RTG, 22 SHR).
WDIV's lineup featured dominating performances in other dayparts as well. The Ellen DeGeneres Show (10-11 a.m.) was #1 and continued to lead in the key demographic of women 25-54 with a 2.2 rating and a 14 share. Wheel Of Fortune (9.1 HH RTG, 18 SHR) and Jeopardy (8.0 HH RTG, 15 SHR) were the top-rated programs in the time period of 7-8 p.m.
In addition, WDIV has been honored with NAB's 2011 Service To America Award for outstanding community service, and 2 Edward R. Murrow Awards from the RTDNA for breaking news and continuing news coverage.
