East Meets West in an Exotic Desert Resort in India as a Tragic Love Story Reveals Intertwined Destinies

"Return to Rajapur" Debuts in Theaters Nationwide

NEW YORK, April 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- "Return to Rajapur", a tragic love story set in an exotic, ancient Indian landscape, released across the country Saturday April 9th, 2011 at select BIG Cinemas locations. Written and directed by New York City filmmakerNanda Anand, the film explores the hidden links between two American women and the handsome, introspective owner of a palace-turned-hotel in an Indian desert village. Set in the past and the present, this captivating love story unfolds across the beautiful landscape of Rajasthan. The talented cast includes Hollywood actors Lynn Collins (Merchant of Venice), Kelli Garner (The Aviator), Justin Theroux (Mulholland Drive), Celia Weston (Juno) and Academy Award Nominee Frank Langella (Frost Nixon). India's National Award Winner Manoj Bajpai plays the male lead.

Jeffrey Lyons, of NBC's Reel Talk, says of the film, "Deeply moving and absorbing... An intense, dramatic love story in one of the world's most exotic locales... Intelligently directed and a remarkable achievement for a first-time screenwriter/director... or a veteran."

The film is set in two time periods, 1983 and 2005, where high society Americans intermingle with Indian aristocracy. It begins with heiress Sara Reardon (Lynn Collins) and her alcoholic husband Jeremy (Justin Theroux) arriving for their honeymoon at the palace. The newlyweds' marriage begins to unravel, as Sara falls for palace owner, Jai Singh (Manoj Bajpai). This tale of ill-fated love unfolds against the impossibly rich palette of India's Rajasthan region, where the deep indigo blues of night contrast with the woozy orange sands of day, mirroring Sara and Jai's painful balance between their overt and covert desires. Tragedy inevitably strikes, and the movie shifts to 2005 where Samantha Hartly (Kelli Garner) is introduced. She begins to remove the layers of the past that conceal the ghosts of the doomed love triangle.
