Comcast Cares Day Lends a Hand to Michigan Communities

Comcast Cares Day Lends a Hand to Michigan Communities

Tenth Day of Giving Expected to Attract 2,500 Volunteers Statewide

PLYMOUTH, Mich., April 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, April 30, more than 2,500 local Comcast employees, their families and friends will volunteer to assist nonprofit organizations around the state of Michigan as part of Comcast's "Comcast Cares Day." At the same time across the country, more than 62,000 Comcast volunteers will participate in this annual day of service. Comcast's tenth Comcast Cares Day is one of the largest single days of corporate volunteer efforts in the country. Since its inception in 2001, Comcast employees, their families and friends have dedicated over two million hours of service. The company has also committed more than $10 million in grants to organizations nationwide. Comcast Cares Day is one way that Comcast helps to power dreams and demonstrate a year-round commitment to making a difference in the communities it serves.

During the week of April 18, and culminating with 17 simultaneous community projects across the state on April 30, local Comcast employees, their families and friends will lend a hand at various nonprofit organizations to perform community improvement activities, including: clearing a nature trail and collecting recycled items in celebration of Earth Day; assisting at a city-wide literacy fair; cleaning and beautifying neighborhoods; and sorting and packing food for the needy at multiple food banks.

"Today, we celebrate our tenth Comcast Cares Day, which is an incredible milestone," said Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO, Comcast Corporation. "Since its inception in 2001, nearly 300,000 Comcast employees, their families and friends have contributed their time to their communities. Today, we will eclipse two million hours of service. Comcast Cares Day is about coming together to make a positive difference in our communities, and I couldn't be more proud to serve alongside my fellow employees today as we continue in that mission."

"Comcast has a proven track record of giving back to the communities in which our employees reside and work, and this year's Comcast Cares Day efforts will help 18 different organizations across Michigan," said Tim Collins, Senior Vice President for Comcast in Michigan. "As Michigan residents continue to overcome the economic challenges facing our state, I'm grateful for the more than 2,500 volunteers who will be donating their time to help make a difference."

The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast's community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year.
