Grupo Salinas Organizes Press Freedom Forum in Guatemala Through its Caminos de la Libertad Program

The full-day conference was held on Friday, February 18 at the prestigious Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala City, with the inaugural talk presented by Caminos de la Libertad President Sergio Sarmiento.

The forum included a distinguished group of foreign journalists, including Ricardo Uceda (Peru), Carlos Dada (El Salvador) and Ana Arana (US/Mexico), as well as a list of prominent Guatemalan journalists to discuss the importance of freedom of expression especially during an election year.

Also participating were Gonzalo Marroquin, President of the Interamerican Press Institute, Sylvia Gereda, director of El Periodico, as well as representatives from TV Azteca Guatemala, Guatevision, CERIGUA, Nuestro Diario, Radiopolis and Radio Punto.

The event culminated with an accord to respect press freedom that was signed by the President of the Guatemalan Congress Roberto Alejos and a diverse group of political party leaders, as well as representatives of leading Guatemalan media.
