On February 3 in Arlington, Texas, just two miles from Cowboys Stadium the site of Super Bowl XLV, one North Arlington neighborhood will receive a championship makeover. Volunteers from Rebuilding Together, Lowe's, Carter's Kids and the NFL will come together to revitalize the community on Drummond Drive.
Volunteers will plant trees, flowers and shrubs and make renovations to 12 homes, which will include: installing new energy-efficient windows and doors; installing water heaters; caulking doors, windows and pipes; painting; and installing new appliances.
In addition to the home and neighborhood projects, volunteers will also build a new playground at Speer Elementary School which has served the community for more than 50 years.
HGTV's Carter Oosterhouse, host of Carter Can, in association with his foundation Carter's Kids, and the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation will build the new playground.
"We want the kids at Speer Elementary and in the surrounding community to have a nice, safe place to play and spend healthy time together with their families," Oosterhouse said. "This playground will change the lives of these children forever."
The playground at Speer Elementary School is the first of six playgrounds that will be built through a new partnership between Rebuilding Together and Carter's Kids with the support of Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation. Lowe's Foundation has donated $400,000 to the six playground projects. Playgrounds will be built in low-income communities across the U.S. during 2011.
