BBC Worldwide's Jessica Rodriguez Named as One of the Most Powerful Women in Cable
MIAMI, Dec. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- BBC Worldwide Channels announced today that Jessica Rodriguez, Senior VP and General Manager, BBC Worldwide Latin America and U.S. Hispanic, was selected as one of the "Most Powerful Women in Cable 2010" by CableFAX Magazine in the United States.
This coveted award sets the benchmark for excellence in cable by recognizing the women who have made their mark on the industry by way of their leadership skills, innovative actions, and strategic thinking that impacted the community. It celebrates women in the United States who took chances, made tremendous strides, and turned challenges into profitable businesses within the cable industry.
"I am honored to receive this recognition," said Jessica Rodriguez, Senior VP and General Manager, BBC Worldwide Latin America and U.S. Hispanic. "Many aspects of my job are challenging, ranging from launching channels in tough economic times and in mature markets to balancing content needs across multiple Latino cultures. Challenges are typical of our industry, however, they bring along with them opportunities for growth and taking measured risks that can have lucrative results."
A breakfastheld today honoring these women at the Grand Hyatt New York saw over 500 guests in attendance who enjoyed the remarks of renowned panelists newscaster Paula Zhan, Kim Martin from WE tv, Debbie Myers from the Science Channel, and Jacqueline Hernandez from Telemundo, in addition to this year's keynote speaker, Vivian Schiller from NPR.
Rodriguez brings a lifetime of experience in the cable industry, having played a pivotal role in leading efforts to launch and grow international channels. Her legacy includes her leadership and accomplishments at other multinationals where she has worked, including boosting ratings, ad sales and distribution, negotiating programming content and crafting brand positioning. This experience led her to BBC, where for the past three years she has spearheaded the launch and operations of BBC Worldwide's wholly-owned channels, BBC Entertainment and CBeebies, throughout Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic market.
"In just over two years, we have successfully positioned both channels in the pay TV industry as a result of the quality of its content, BBC's commitment to the US Hispanic market and Latin America, and its rapid expansion in both regions," said Rodriguez. "In 2011, our goal is to increase our distribution and deliver on our commitment to offer a broader variety of new programming content."
