USA TODAY Partners with CBS News to Explore the Baby Boom Generation and its Impact on the Nation

"USA TODAY/CBS News: Senior Moment"

MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 15, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- USA TODAY is again joining forces with CBS News to extend the reach of "USA TODAY/CBS NEWS: Senior Moment," a cross-platform series that will explore the baby boom generation and its impact on the nation as the first boomers begin to turn 65 in January of next year. The partnership launched today and will run in USA TODAY as a periodic series. CBS News' coverage of this series will begin on THE EARLY SHOW tomorrow morning with a segment that takes a look at the perks and advantages that come with hitting that "magic number" at age 65.

Both news organizations will report the broad-reaching topic independently, cross-branding and promoting each other's efforts via print, television, radio and online. In addition, USA TODAY will make content from the "USA TODAY/CBS NEWS: Senior Moment" series available to all Gannett newspapers. The two journalism giants previously teamed up for the successful "Children of the Recession," which won an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for excellence in broadcast journalism, and "Where America Stands" in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

"USA TODAY is proud to be partnering with CBS News again on yet another important journalistic series," said John Hillkirk, editor of USA TODAY. "The combined reach of these two news organizations and the breadth of topic being covered will offer Americans an in-depth look at exactly what the impact of the baby boom generation has been."

"Once again, CBS News is pleased to join forces with USA TODAY, this time to report on baby boomer issues that affect so many millions," said Sean McManus, President CBS News and Sports. "Our journalists and our multiple platforms provide perfect resources to give America an in-depth look at the impact of this generation's aging, including shifting family dynamics, a multitude of health issues and stark new financial realities."

USA TODAY has the following plans in place for the launch of "USA TODAY/CBS NEWS: Senior Moment" during the week of November 15, 2010:

-- NEWS: The first boomers and how they changed America
-- MONEY: The growing push by businesses to market to boomers
-- SPORTS: How boomer sports stars handle aging
-- LIFE: Why later generations resent boomers

Additional coverage in USA TODAY and on USATODAY.com will include how boomers are changing life in the U.S.A., interviews with iconic figures turning 65 in 2011, and an interactive quiz that determines which generation readers belong to online at USATODAY.com.

CBS will launch "USA TODAY/CBS NEWS: Senior Moment" across multiple platforms during the week of November 15, 2010. Planned coverage including the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC, THE EARLY SHOW, CBS Radio, and on CBSNews.com includes:

-- THE EARLY SHOW: In a report about why aging isn't necessarily a bad
thing for boomers, learn about the perks and discounts you are offered
once you hit age 65. This story will kick off CBS News' coverage of the
series on Tuesday, November 16.
-- The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC will feature a report from CBS
News Medical Correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook on how the first signs of
Alzheimer's can be money woes.
-- CBS Radio: As the first big retirement year for boomers approaches, many
