Emmis' Sarah Harris Honored with Hazelett Award for Leadership in Grantmaking

Emmis' Sarah Harris Honored with Hazelett Award for Leadership in Grantmaking

INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Sarah Harris, Emmis Communications' Vice President of Community Outreach, has been named the 2010 Hazelett Award winner from the Indiana Grantmaker Alliance.

Harris, who joined Emmis in 2000, has been instrumental in leading the company's community outreach efforts. In her work, she brings together community, business and government leaders to advance programs that address strategic community priorities - both in Indianapolis and throughout the country. Her position requires a great deal of creativity in helping nonprofit organizations best position themselves for public and private support

Jill Kramer of Lumina Foundation for Education nominated Harris for the honor. "Sarah has been involved in philanthropy and community outreach for nearly a decade," Kramer wrote in her nomination. "Her impact is felt both in the local community and in national markets where Emmis works. In addition to her work at Emmis (where she has been promoted regularly), she volunteers her time and talent to local nonprofit organizations. Sarah has been recognized by a number of organizations for her service in the nonprofit sector."

The Hazelett Award for Leadership in Grantmaking is an annual honor intended to recognize the efforts of a leader in grantmaking. The grantmaker selected embodies the spirit of philanthropy displayed by the late Susie Hazelett, a teacher, volunteer and philanthropist from Indiana who died in 2004. The winner displays a giving spirit as evidenced by mentoring and nurturing professional development in others; a giver of time, talent and other resources; a strong professional with the highest of standards; integrity; and creativity.
