KIRO 7 Announces Finalists for Western Washington's Cox Conserves Heroes Program
Online voters to determine winner and help donate $10,000 to local environmental nonprofits
SEATTLE, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- KIRO 7, in partnership with The Trust for Public Land (TPL), today announced finalists for Western Washington's 2010 Cox Conserves Heroes program. The winning Hero, to be chosen by an online public vote, will be awarded $5,000 to donate to the environmental nonprofit of his or her choice. The four finalists each will receive $1,250 to donate to their nonprofits of choice.

The public is being asked to vote now through Nov. 1 at kirotv.com/heroes.
Nominations reflected a wide variety of conservation and educational programs by impressive community volunteers. The finalists were selected by a Judging Circle of local environmental leaders.
Finalists include (environmental nonprofit of choice):

-- Robert Girvin (Green Tacoma Partnership)
-- Jan Holmes (WSU Island County Beach Watchers)

This is the third year the Cox Conserves Heroes program has taken place in Western Washington. Gary Colley was named Western Washington's Cox Conserves Hero in 2009 and selected the North Olympic Land Trust to receive $5,000. Mike Town was named the inaugural Cox Conserves Hero in 2008 and The Washington Wilderness Coalition was his environmental nonprofit of choice.
The Cox Conserves Heroes program was created through a partnership between The Trust for Public Land and Cox Enterprises, the parent company of KIRO 7, to honor everyday conservationists.
