Arbitron's Oveda Brown Honored by American Urban Radio Networks
COLUMBIA, Md., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Only a few short months after being named by Radio Ink as "One to Watch" in the magazine's Most Influential African-Americans in Radio issue, Oveda Brown, multicultural marketing manager for Arbitron, is a recipient of the Urban Knight Award, presented by American Urban Radio Networks.
Ms. Brown creates multicultural outreach strategies for Arbitron Inc. (NYSE: ARB). Her work is designed to promote radio as a strategic vehicle for reaching America's growing population of multicultural consumers. The award was presented to Ms. Brown at the NAB/RAB Radio Show late last month in Washington, DC.
"Arbitron has made it a priority to represent and serve radio broadcasters and their listeners of all ethnic backgrounds. Oveda is a stellar example of that commitment," said William Kerr, president and chief executive officer, Arbitron Inc. "Her continued efforts to work with ethnic broadcasters and multicultural advertising agencies in order to help them better understand the nuances of marketing to America's growing ethnic consumers has not only been a benefit to Arbitron, but to the industry as a whole."
A 17-year media veteran, Oveda has held various positions at radio and television stations across the country, including WMAQ-AM, WFMT-FM, and WTTW-Channel 11 in Chicago, as well as WROU-FM in Dayton, Ohio, and WKMG-Channel 6 in Orlando, Florida. A native Chicagoan, Ms. Brown holds a B.S. in Radio-Television-Film from Northwestern University and a M.S. in Broadcast Administration from Boston University. Her passion for multicultural marketing began with her master's thesis entitled, "Shades of Black: Dimensions in Urban Contemporary/Black Appeal Radio."
The Urban Knight Award, which honors those individuals who go the extra mile to improve marketing and representation in the Urban consumer marketplace, recognizes Ms. Brown's and Arbitron's commitment to the Black community.
