It's Autumn in New York; Time to 'Fall For The Bronx'

New Action Tours Debut

BRONX, N.Y., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hikes through a centuries-old forest; canoe rides down the river; bike rides through the foliage...autumn is an irresistible time to "fall for the Bronx."

With its new "Fall For The Bronx" Action Tours, New York City's northernmost borough beckons visitors and tempts locals to experience its riches once again.

"Every season has its charms, but the fall is especially beautiful in the Bronx," said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. "So whether you're coming from across the globe or across town, it's a great time to discover, or rediscover, the Bronx."

Hosted by The Bronx Tourism Council, five different tours now through October 30 offer round-trip trolley service from midtown Manhattan and immerse participants in unique, interactive experiences:

Focus on the Bronx: A Photography Tour
Dates: Saturday, September 18 and Saturday, October 16

Participants take some of their best photos ever during this special tour, led by award-winning photographer-instructor and Bronx native Marisol Diaz. On-the-spot tips ensure great shots of Bronx people, places, architecture, street scenes and more. Includes admission to Wave Hill, a stunning public garden and cultural center, and stops at the Hall of Fame for Great Americans, the Lourdes of America shrine and the urban phenomenon of "casitas" - little houses built on community gardens to resemble homes on the Puerto Rican countryside.

Bronx EcoAdventure
Dates: Saturday, September 25 & Saturday, October 9

Ecotourism in one of the country's most renowned urban areas? Absolutely! The Bronx is the only place you can hike through the largest remaining portion of New York City's original forest; come nose-to-nose with Western lowland gorillas; and canoe down the beautiful, reclaimed Bronx River with guides from the Bronx River Alliance. This memorable tour includes canoe rental and admission to the New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo. There's a stop for lunch at famous Arthur Avenue, New York City's true Little Italy.

Ready For Your Close-Up? NYC's Only TV Production Tour
Dates: Friday, September 24 & Friday, October 29

Be part of the live morning show studio audience at the Bronx's Emmy award-winning TV station, BronxNet. This special edition of the OPEN Show with popular personalities Rhina Valentin and Baron Ambrosia, has lots of trivia prizes, musical performances, audience participation and more. When the director yells "cut!", participants take over the studio to produce their own show which is posted online that day.

Biking Through Bronx History
Dates: Saturday, October 2 & Saturday, October 30

The Five Borough Bike Club leads cyclists on Bronx Greenway paths to three of New York City's premier parks and includes admission to two of the borough's most popular historic house museums, The Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum and the Van Cortlandt House Museum for special narrated tours. There's a break for lunch at City Island, a seaport community with a rich nautical history. Bike rental is included.

Mambo To Hip Hop At The Boogie Down Bronx
Date: Saturday, October 23

Through a video exhibit at Hunts Point participants learn about the fascinating parallels between mambo moves of the 40s and 50s and the hip hop/break dancing phenomenon born in the Bronx in the 70s. A walking tour of the area by acclaimed mambo musician Angel Rodriguez highlights the musical history of this fascinating neighborhood. Then visitors take a crash course in congas and other Latin percussion instruments and end their day jamming in the South Bronx.

"These tours aren't for people who want a conventional 'to your left and to your right' sort of tour. These are for tourists and New Yorkers who want an authentic, memorable, active experience," says Doris Quinones, Executive Director of the Bronx Tourism Council.
