EHE International Showcases Stand Up To Cancer Window Display Unveiled in Rockefeller Center
NEW YORK, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Stand Up To Cancer (www.standup2cancer.org), a groundbreaking movement that has raised more than $100 million for accelerated cancer research, today unveiled a 115-square foot display window in 10 Rockefeller Plaza, created to generate tune-in for the upcoming Stand Up To Cancer television event, set to air live for one hour, commercial-free in primetime on September 10, 2010, at 8p.m. EDT & PDT / 7 p.m. CDT.
The telecast will build public support and donations for cutting-edge cancer research -done by teams of scientists-- that translates at a rapid pace from the laboratory to treatments and technologies that benefit patients. One hundred percent of all donations received from the public will go directly to cancer research.
The window at 10 Rockefeller Plaza, donated by EHE International, will exhibit a Stand Up To Cancer banner featuring actor Rob Lowe and will be on display until August 31, 2010.
"We hope to educate people about cancer, and the work Stand Up To Cancer is doing to find a cure. We encourage everyone to recognize and act on any warning signs or symptoms they might discover," said Deborah McKeever, President of EHE International.
"Every day, cancer kills 1,500 Americans - one person every minute," said executive producer Laura Ziskin. "This year, more than 560,000 Americans and eight million people worldwide will succumb to the disease. One in three women and one in two men will be diagnosed in their lifetimes. Our goal with this telecast is to not only continue to raise funds to accelerate promising research, but also show viewers how their money and individual action will make - and have already made - a difference. With the thousands of New Yorkers and tourists who may see it every day, this Rockefeller Center window is a great opportunity and will make more people aware of our broadcast."
Two years after the first historic television event, Stand Up To Cancer will present a star- studded line up, hosted by national evening news anchors Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer, and Brian Williams, featuring live performances by legendary recording artists and stars from film, television and sports presenting content that provides viewers with insights into cancer. While the broadcast will honor the memory of those taken by the disease; it will also focus on surviving cancer and living a full life after being diagnosed with it. This year, 13 million people around the world will be diagnosed with cancer and 1.4 million in the United States alone. In total, there are more than 11 million cancer survivors in the U.S. today.
NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX have donated time for the one hour nationally televised fundraising special to be broadcast from Los Angeles. The networks will be joined by join HBO, VH1, Discovery Health, E!, The Style Network, MLB Network, HBO Latino, Showtime, TV One and G4 for an historic evening to raise much-needed funds for groundbreaking cancer research.
Stand Up To Cancer brings together scientists from different disciplines across various institutions to work collaboratively - rather than competitively - at a critical time in the field of cancer research. The Stand Up To Cancer funding model has fostered collaboration and innovation, and the unprecedented sharing of ideas and pooling of resources across institutions. Collectively the research that will be done through the Dream Team projects could impact the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of cancers, which represent two thirds of all U.S. cancer deaths. The September 10th broadcast will highlight examples of the Dream Teams' progress to date and garner more support for future groundbreaking cancer research.
