Detroit Symphony Musicians Reach Out to Audiences for Support; Present Two September Concerts

DETROIT, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Can't wait until October, when the Detroit Symphony Orchestra opens its 2010-11 season? Rest easy, thanks to the DSO musicians. They will be filling the void with two concerts, Saturday, September 11, 8 PM, and Sunday, September 19, 3 PM, at Kirk in the Hills, 340 West Long Lake Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302.

The musicians, who are in stalled contract negotiations with DSO management, the conductors, the artists and the stagehands are all donating their services for the two concerts.

The September 11 concert, with Uriel Segal conducting, will feature DSO concertmaster Emmanuelle Boisvert playing the Mozart Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major, K. 218. The program will also feature the Bach Suite No. 3 in D Major, BMV 1068 and Mozart's Symphony No. 34 in C Major, K. 338.

The September 19 concert, with Grant Cooper conducting, will feature sopranos Nicole S. Greenidge and Peiyi Wang and bass Glenn Miller in arias from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, Zaide, La Clemenza di Tito, and The Magic Flute, with DSO acting principal flutist Phil Dikeman.

The musicians will provide an update on the status of the negotiations.

"Though management keeps saying that it is willing to meet with us, it refuses to negotiate and budge from its proposal," according to DSO cellist Haden McKay, who is on the musicians' negotiating committee. "It is a proposal that guarantees the end of the DSO as a Top Ten major orchestra."

Tickets, $20 and $50, will be available at the door by cash or check made out to Detroit Symphony Musicians or by credit card at http://www.detroitsymphonymusicians.org/.
