MEXICO CITY, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Salinas, a group of dynamic, fast-growing and technologically advanced companies deeply committed to the modernization of the countries where they operate -- founded by Mexican entrepreneur Ricardo Salinas (http://www.ricardosalinas.com/) -- announced that TV Azteca and Banco Azteca received Certificaciones de Cumplimiento Ambiental environmental certifications from the Mexico City Environmental Department, as well as a Calidad Ambiental certification from PROFEPA environmental protection agency.
The event was presided by Martha Delgado, who heads up the Mexico City Environmental Department, and Jorge Galvan, General Director of Planning and Audits of the PROFEPA. The certificates were received by Grupo Elektra and Banco Azteca CEO Carlos Septien and TV Azteca CEO Mario San Roman.
Grupo Salinas companies are firmly committed to the environment, which includes optimizing electricity consumption, efficient water use, proper materials and waste handling and the reduction of paper use, among other actions to improve current and future conditions for Mexico and the world.
Results of recent environmental programs include the reduction of 28,000 metric tons of CO2 in 2009 -- which is the equivalent of planting 210,000 trees or the annual CO2 generation of 23,850 homes. Each week 2,500 kilograms of paper, cardboard, PET plastics and aluminum are recycled, reducing 10m3 of garbage. Meanwhile, paper consumption has been reduced by 80% since 2004.
Banco Azteca is the first financial institution to receive the Certificacion de Cumplimiento Ambiental in Mexico City. TV Azteca promotes internal initiatives and television campaigns to improve the environment.
