CONNECT's MIP Awards recognize locally-developed, cutting-edge products covering a wide range of industries and have served as a benchmark for predicting San Diego's most successful emerging technologies. Award finalists were selected from approximately 100 entries representing a broad range of companies and Cinavia was chosen from four finalists in the Software category.
"We are honored to have Cinavia recognized as one of the most innovative products of the year by CONNECT," said Nil Shah, chief executive of Verance Corporation. "We are thankful to CONNECT for spotlighting the pioneering technologies that are being developed in our region. And we congratulate the other MIP finalists for their inspiring work to create technologies that solve critical problems and positively impact people's lives around the globe."
Cinavia employs Verance's proprietary audio watermarking technology to protect film and video content against unauthorized use. Cinavia has been adopted as a mandatory component for the Blu-ray Disc(TM) content protection architecture and has been licensed by Universal Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Bros. Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation.
CONNECT MIP award recipients were selected through a rigorous screening process, including review by a committee of industry experts and a panel of judges made up of San Diego's business, civic and academic leaders.
Cinavia and other MIP Award winners were announced Friday, December 11th at the MIP Awards Luncheon, held at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines, to an audience of more than 800 of San Diego's top executives, entrepreneurs, service providers and academics.
