THE DEREK TRUCKS BAND Receives Grammy Nomination For Work On Latest CD ALREADY FREE, Recognized In Category Of Best Contemporary Blues Album
NEW YORK, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- THE DEREK TRUCKS BAND has been honored with their first Grammy nomination in the category of "Best Contemporary Blues Album" for their latest release, ALREADY FREE.
Released in January, ALREADY FREE debuted at #19 on Billboard's Top 200 Chart, marking the band's highest career chart debut. The album made waves on other charts as well, debuting at #1 on the Internet Chart, #4 on the Rock Chart and #1 on the Blues chart. Praised by Rolling Stone Magazine as their "most accessible blues-rock set to date," ALREADY FREE is also the band's top-selling effort to date.
In a Grammy rarity, Derek Trucks faces some familiar competition, as his wife Susan Tedeschi is also nominated in the same category for her release Back To The River. Jay-Z and Beyonce are the only other spouses to each receive Grammy nominations this year, albeit in different categories. Trucks and Tedeschi have announced plans to put their talents together in 2010 to form a new band, which assures that any Grammy win would remain within the "family."
The first single off ALREADY FREE, "Down In The Flood," is a stirring cover from Bob Dylan's classic album The Basement Tapes. "Down In The Flood" was embraced by many AAA and Classic Rock radio stations. According to Mediabase, "Down In The Flood" is the most played song in Derek's catalogue. The band's riveting performances of the song on "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien" and on ABC's "Good Morning America" boosted its popularity to new heights.
"I am very proud of the praise that The Derek Trucks Band has received for ALREADY FREE. I look forward to a long future with the band," says Alex Miller, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Sony Masterworks.
After touring non-stop around the world for 16 years, DTB will take a hiatus in 2010. Sony Masterworks plans to release a double live album in the Spring from The Derek Trucks Band's 2009 tour.
