Cleveland is the only three-time winner of the Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album and has received rave reviews for her latest CD release, "God Don't Never Change," a celebration of vintage African-American gospel songs. The music ranges from Blind Willie Johnson's title track to Washington Phillips's "Denomination Blues" to echoes of Mattie Moss Clark on "Going to Heaven to Meet the King" to "You Got to Move," a traditional song recorded by the Rev. Gary Davis, the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith.
"Ashley Cleveland is an extraordinary talent with a singular voice. We're delighted to have her kick off our Freedom Sings concert series at the Newseum," Paulson said.
Freedom Sings(TM) is an ongoing program of the First Amendment Center. The program includes an annual concert, "Freedom Sings at the Bluebird Cafe," Nashville's celebrated songwriter club; a national touring multimedia stage production; and special concerts and performances.
