Green Family Foundation Announces Dual Commitments At 2009 Clinton Global Initiative To Benefit Health, Social And Cultural Advancement In Haiti

Pledges $280,000 in Second Year of Funding for Millennium Village Project Haiti; $56,000 to Repatriate Original Recordings by Alan Lomax in Haiti

NEW YORK, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Green Family Foundation (www.greenff.org), a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving global health and elevating socio-economic conditions, announced today dual commitments benefiting Haiti at the 2009 Clinton Global Initiative.

The commitments include a $280,000 pledge to the Millennium Village Project Haiti (MVP Haiti), the second stage in a five-year, $680,000 commitment. Additionally, the Green Family Foundation (GFF) pledged a $56,000 commitment to fund "Repatriation and Cultural Presentation in Haiti," the restoration and dissemination of original recordings made by legendary musicologist Alan Lomax in Haiti that pay tribute to the country's rich musical heritage. GFF and the repatriation commitment will be featured as part of CGI's "Human Capital Plenary" on Thursday, September 24th.

"In 2008, GFF had the honor of sharing the closing plenary stage with President Clinton and dozens of philanthropists and notable personalities who committed to affecting positive change in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. We are grateful to President Clinton for helping to shine a light on the challenges facing Haiti and are proud and inspired by the seeds of positive change that have been planted in the past year alone," said Kimberly Green, president of the Green Family Foundation. "Through these dual commitments, GFF is working to build a stronger future for Haiti while paying tribute to the rich history and proud cultural traditions of its past."

As part of the "Repatriation and Cultural Presentation in Haiti" project, GFF has funded the remastering of original recordings by legendary musicologist Alan Lomax in Haiti that capture the country's musical heritage and rich oral traditions. Funded through the Association for Cultural Equity (ACE) and its partners, the recordings were originally made by Lomax on behalf of the Library of Congress in 1936-37.

As part of its $280,000 commitment to MVP Haiti, GFF funded the hiring of a policy director to oversee on-the-ground implementation of the project and to serve as a liaison between GFF, the Earth Institute, the local government in Haiti and each of the implementation partners. Additionally, GFF pledged $180,000 to bolster the humanitarian efforts led by Project Medishare. A featured commitment announced by President William Jefferson Clinton during the closing plenary of the 2008 Clinton Global Initiative, MVP Haiti assists the country's Government and poverty reduction efforts while implementing Millennium Development Goals. MVP Haiti's mission is to provide the Government and the Haiti people with a tool for the execution and delivery of development services across the country.
