Rock Band and Fans Team Up to Release an Album
Rock Band and Fans Team Up to Release an Album
Is This the Future of the Music Business?
RENSSELAER, N.Y., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the past year and a half, fans of Upstate New York indie rockers Ten Year Vamp became actual owners of the record label that will release the female-fronted band's first full-length album on August 21, 2009. In a groundbreaking effort to break away from music industry dependence, Ten Year Vamp created the Album Project, which offers shares of the forthcoming CD to its fanbase and other investors. Shares started at $25, and to date the band has raised more than $30,000, leaving little doubt that people recognize the outfit's potential for success.
"Each owner will receive their fair percentage of album sales based on how much they invested," says band co-founder and guitarist Mark Rose. Over the past few months, owners also voted on which songs should make the album and which photo should be used for the album cover. This plan also benefits the band in that they immediately receive their share of the sales -- not only for the money they invested along with their fans, but also for their time and hard work. The group has been credited by Forbes, CNBC, Yahoo!, AOL Money and Finance, Columbia's School of Journalism and countless other news sites as completely reinventing the way records are recorded, marketed and sold.
The new album, entitled "Don't Act Like You Know Me," was produced by Mike Watts and recorded at VuDu Studios on Long Island. Mike Watts has produced records for Virgin Records, Warner Bros. Records, Victory Records, Roadrunner Records and more. The album will be released on August 21st with a special CD Release show at Vapor in Saratoga, NY. The band will also be performing at the Jersey City LGTB Festival on August 29, the Cars For Cancer Challenge at the Lebanon Valley Speedway on August 30, Larkfest in Albany, NY on September 19, and Crash Mansion in NYC on September 26 as a special Headline Guest for the annual M.E.A.N.Y. Fest.
Ten Year Vamp has toured the Northeastern U.S. extensively for the past five years, playing more than 450 shows -- many with national acts, including Simple Plan, Sum 41, Fuel, Lifehouse, Natasha Beddingfield, Gavin Degraw, David Archuletta, Thriving Ivory, Jesse McCartney, and more.
