Rich, who writes on the topics of politics and pop culture, speaks to Rather on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the economy, the future of media and what he is most concerned with right now, race relations in America.
"I've been thinking about - like everyone in the country - race," Rich told Rather. "There is a sense of - anxiety I think among some white Americans, certainly not all, maybe not a majority of them, that the world has changed."
When discussing the state of American media today, and whether or not a governmental commission should be involved in examining some of the problems facing journalism today, Rich did not feel that the government should be involved.
"I don't know if journalism will find it's way or not. I hope it will. I don't think the government can be involved," said Rich. "I'm not saying newspapers will survive in their current form or television network news organizations will survive in their current form or the evening news or whatever. I'm not saying any of those vehicles are sacrosanct. We all know that. The world is changing. The media are changing."
"Dan Rather Reports: A Conversation with Frank Rich," premieres tomorrow, August 4 at 8:00 p.m. ET on HDNet.
