Asha San Francisco: Beat the Recession -- Watch Uplifting Bollywood Films & Make a Difference, Aug. 15

SAN FRANCISCO, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Asha for Education, San Francisco today announced that it shall host the annual "Film Festival of Hope" on August 15 from 1 pm-12 am in San Francisco. Through blockbuster Bollywood films, documentary films and a festive atmosphere, this festival will paint a picture for improving the lives of underprivileged kids in today's India with a 'hope' of bringing them a better tomorrow.

Bucking general economy woes, tickets for this years Film Festival of Hope are selling fast. "Our focus this is year is to sustain our message of hope. Through these trailblazer films, we endeavor to raise social awareness, funds for projects, celebrate the world's largest democracy's 62nd Independence Day. Most importantly, we endeavor to bring the community together to use our collective energies to make a positive difference, by enjoying some fun and uplifting movies together," say festival representatives who have formed partnerships with several San Francisco Bay Area partner and sponsor organizations.

Of these selections, "Slumdog Millionaire" won the Oscar for best film this year, and "Smile Pinki" won the best documentary film award also at the Oscars. All of the funds that are raised during the course of the film festival will go towards the education and empowerment of underprivileged children.

About Asha San Francisco:

Asha for Education was founded in Berkeley in 1991 with the goal of providing basic education to underprivileged children in India. In the years since its inception, the organization has grown to having chapters all over the US and in other countries as well. Asha-SF is a chapter of Asha for Education based in San Francisco and is comprised of members that are residents of San Francisco and nearby areas. It was started in June 2007 and works closely with the Asha Silicon Valley chapter. The primary focus of the Asha-SF chapter is to fund a number of educational projects in India and maintain a close personal involvement with them. In addition, the chapter will also be involved in fund-raising and community outreach activities.
