LSI 3ware PCI-e SATA RAID Controller Cards Selected by FilmLight for High-Performance Color Grading System
LSI RAID controller cards enhance performance of solid-state drives in tiered storage networks and ease integration with existing drives
MILPITAS, Calif., June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that FilmLight, one of the world's leading providers of digital film and video technology to production and post-production houses from Hollywood to Mumbai, has selected award-winning LSI(TM) 3ware(R) SATA RAID controller cards for Baselight, the company's high-performance color grading system.
"Many of the largest post-production companies in the industry rely on Baselight for their color grading," said Mike Grieve, sales director at FilmLight. "Our reputation for performance, capacity and value depends on the quality of the hardware components we use to build the platform. LSI 3ware RAID controller cards continue to be the best choice to help us meet and exceed the performance and protection needs of our customers."
Color grading is a demanding creative and technical process for productions ranging from commercials and long-form television to feature film 4K digital intermediate (DI). The Baselight platform is based on high-quality, standard PC building blocks that offer customers a high-performance solution at a minimum cost.
Mike Grieve added, "Our customers are creative, artistic types who want to work in real-time. They need the highest-performing color grading system possible, and they want it to work reliably without any technical issues. When researching the RAID controller card market, we found that LSI 3ware products are being used by major banks and other large institutions. This, combined with the high level of service and support we receive, is very reassuring."
Baselight's multi-node architecture delivers real-time 4K performance and up to 96TB of disk capacity, all managed and protected by 3ware RAID controller cards. Such large disk capacities enable multiple projects of different formats to be online simultaneously, saving both time and money.
"The broadcast and post-production industries depend on technical excellence throughout the entire spectrum of the production process," said Brent Blanchard, worldwide sales and marketing director, LSI. "Whether it is a high-performance or multi-streaming need, LSI 3ware RAID controller cards will continue to meet the needs of these industries."
Each Baselight system uses the LSI 3ware 9650SE-24M8 16-port SATA RAID PCIe(R) controller card connected to a CI-Design SATA II backplane. Using a combination of hardware RAID 5 and software RAID 0, FilmLight is able to run its own parallel file system of up to eight stripes within Baselight to allow real-time playback of very high-resolution images.
