Comcast, Boston Red Sox Partner to Launch Red Sox On Demand
Innovative New Feature Connects Red Sox Fans to the Hometown Team Like Never Before
BOSTON, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast and the Boston Red Sox today announced that they have partnered to launch Red Sox On Demand, an innovative new feature giving Red Sox fans of all ages unprecedented around-the-clock TV access to their hometown team any time they want.
Starting today, Red Sox On Demand, available exclusively to Comcast Digital Cable customers in New England, will bring the world-renowned Red Sox directly into the living rooms of local fans.
From the latest team news to profiles of current and past players, historic milestones, community events and insider features, Red Sox On Demand will deliver an extensive and up close look at the Red Sox teams of yesterday and today - both on and off the field. Highlights include behind-the-scenes looks at the 2004 World Series Trophy Tour; Josh Beckett's Annual Beckett Bowl; a hitting clinic by Kevin Youkilis; and a cribbage match between Manager Terry Francona and Dustin Pedroia. Red Sox On Demand will also include episodes of Red Sox Report in both English and Spanish, as well as season recaps from as far back as the 1950s and a spotlight on the Sox's farm system.
With Red Sox On Demand, fans can watch what they want, when they want it with the click of the remote control, pausing, fast-forwarding or rewinding to catch all their favorite moments or to deepen their knowledge about the team, players and coaches. The new programming can be easily accessed by selecting the "Get Local" category from the On Demand menu and then "Red Sox On Demand."
"Our fans have told us that while they can't get enough Red Sox programming, sometimes their schedules don't allow them to catch all their favorite team shows and features on the original air dates. Now with Red Sox On Demand, our fans can watch the Red Sox program they want when they want it," said Sam Kennedy, Red Sox Executive Vice President and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer. "Red Sox On Demand demonstrates our commitment to constantly seek new ways to provide additional value to both our fans and our corporate partners. The launch of this exciting feature is the result of a lot of creativity and hard work put in by our partners at Comcast, as well as our Video Production and Broadcasting departments."
Red Sox On Demand will be regularly updated with the most up-to-date news and features, and plans are in place to add exponentially more content over time from the rich Red Sox video library, which stretches back more than a half century. Like the overwhelming majority of Comcast's more than 10,000 On Demand programs available each month, Red Sox On Demand comes at no additional cost to Comcast Digital Cable customers. Since On Demand launched in 2003, Comcast customers have watched more than 12 billion programs.
"With the launch of Red Sox On Demand, we're bringing our New England customers access to the Boston Red Sox like they've never experienced them before," said Steve Hackley, Senior Vice President of Comcast's Greater Boston Region. "Whether it's being the first provider to offer Red Sox games in high definition or using our two-way advanced fiber-optic network to create Red Sox On Demand, Comcast is committed to keeping our customers at the forefront of innovative television technology and delivering them the best in local sports programming on their schedule."
