Red Bull Big Tune made its national television debut on the BET network this spring with a half-hour show chronicling the 2008 national finals in New York City. All-star acts such as Digable Planets, Ghost Face Killah, Alchemist and Sha Money make cameos.
EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME
The winner of the Red Bull Big Tune national championship is awarded a trip to Los Angeles to work one-on-one with a prominent recording artist of his/her choice at Red Bull Studios. In 2007, the winner recorded with Young Buck. Last year's winner, 18-year-old C-Sick from Chicago worked with Hip-Hop legend Nas.
"Everything sounds great!" exclaimed C-Sick after a long day in the studio. "The way Nas spits over beats is crazy. It's exactly what I expected."
C-Sick came prepared with several beats but ultimately Nas selected the melodic overture that C-Sick was hoping for.
"He is a real Hip-Hop producer already," Nas commented. It doesn't matter what age you are. When you have it, you have it... and he has it."
GIVING BACK
A key element of Red Bull Big Tune is the education outreach program. These are held in each city before the battles to inspire and educate future beat makers throughout the country. Red Bull Big Tune team members and critically acclaimed producers Jake One and Vitamin D along with event creator Jonathan Moore lead the education outreach by sharing their history and experience in the music industry as well providing hands-on tutorials on how to make beats.
