Crosby, Stills & Nash Extend 2009 Tour Through Late September With Second U.S. Leg
DEMOS, AN ALBUM OF PREVIOUSLY UNISSUED CSN RARITIES, TO BE RELEASED BY RHINO ON JUNE 2nd
THE TRIO GETS INDUCTED INTO THE SONGWRITER'S HALL OF FAME ON JUNE 18 IN NYC
LOS ANGELES, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Four decades after their first concert together in front of the multitudes at Woodstock, Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) take to the road again for four months of dates in the U.S., Canada, Europe and the U.K. The group-David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash-just announced a second North American leg for their 2009 tour, which extends the itinerary through September. The schedule closes with a pair of intimate shows at Humphrey's in San Diego, CA on September 28 and 29.
The tour kicks off next month with a June 3 show in St. Louis, MO, the day after Rhino Records' release of Demos. Featuring 12 previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1968 and 1971, Demos spotlights destined-to-be-classic songs later heard on CSN's group and solo titles. The disc opens with the trio harmonizing on "Marrakesh Express," recorded four months before the song came out on the group's self-titled 1969 debut LP. Other rarities include seminal takes on "Almost Cut My Hair," "Chicago," "Love The One You're With," "Sleep Song" and "Long Time Gone."
Just after the tour's initial North American leg wraps at the Bank of America Pavilion in Boston, MA on June 14, CSN will be inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame (SHOF) on June 18 in New York City. The honor--which follows their 1997 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame--recognizes CSN as a group, and each member as individual solo artists. It also acknowledges the groundbreaking music each created prior to forming CSN: The Byrds (Crosby), Buffalo Springfield (Stills) and The Hollies (Nash). This convergence of rock 'n roll pedigrees led to CSN becoming known as music's first "supergroup."
Following the SHOF ceremony, the tour picks up internationally on June 27 in the U.K., when CSN plays the sold-out 2009 Glastonbury Festival. Other U.K. stops include July 1, when CSN takes the venerable stage at London's Royal Albert Hall, and then performs shows in: Cork, Ireland (6/29); Manchester, England (7/10) and Edinburgh, Scotland (7/11). The trio's summer European itinerary also touches down on the Continent for four dates, including the Museum Plaza in Bonn, Germany (7/1) and The Olympia in Paris, France (7/4).
The second set of North American dates begins July 25 at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, ME. Among the many other highlights are shows at Wantagh, NY's Jones Beach (8/8), Chastain Park Amphitheater in Atlanta, GA (8/17), Red Rocks in Morrison, CO (9/1) and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA (9/23).
CSN's music became a cornerstone of rock 'n roll with their self-titled 1969 debut LP, now one of Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." 1970's Deja Vu--another "500 Greatest"--followed, the first album from the group's four-man line-up with Neil Young (CSN&Y). Ever since--through changing times and various configurations--Crosby, Stills & Nash have continued to tour and record as "three together."
