Also airing in Britain on March 26, 2009 at 8:00pm on BBC2-Natural World; and in Canada on October 18th, 2009 at 8:00pm on CBC Nature of Things with David Suzuki.

Produced by award-winning Gryphon Productions and owners producer/director Peter von Puttkamer and his wife, Producer Sheera von Puttkamer, this film takes us from Peru's bustling city of Iquitos to an exotic world: a 4 day jungle cruise down the Amazon and its tributaries to the Lago Preto monkey preserve -- home to a troupe of 500 threatened Red Uakari monkeys. Here wildlife biologist Dr. Mark Bowler studies the primates, working with the Wildlife Conservation Society and England's Durrell Institute. The monkeys feed on the Aguaje Palm - called "the Tree of Life" - as they drop fruit to the forest floor it helps feed many other animal species. But, as logging moves into the area - forest eco-systems are threatened and hunting could wipe out whole species. Through his work, Mark helps to ensure the future survival of these amazing monkeys.

Von Puttkamer and his crew worked over many weeks, trekking and paddling for miles through the jungle to find the elusive primates. Fending off infectious insects, and avoiding poisonous snakes, 15 ft. black caiman and electric eels the crew went the distance to capture the Red Uakari in its habitat for the first time.
