A Celebration of Itzhak Perlman's 50 Years of Musical Genius in the U.S. forms the Piece de Resistance (or takes Center Stage)
BOCA RATON, Fla., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- It all began in 1959 when the young maestro was featured on the Ed Sullivan's Show "Caravan of Stars," a showcase for gifted promising young artists, the rest is now history!
Next year marks the 50th anniversary of his stellar U.S. debut and a milestone in a career that spans thousands of performances and numerous prestigious awards (including the Kennedy Center Honors), and the Festival of the Arts BOCA will be front and center in this epic celebration.
Entering its third year, the Festival of the Arts BOCA is the creation of Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park in collaboration with world-renowned IMG Artists, who are intrinsically tied to the planning and execution of numerous other international high-end festivals such as: Festival del Sole in Tuscany Italy, Singapore Sun Festival, Festival del Sole in Napa Valley and the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Festival in the United Arab Emirates.
Beyond the opening evening spectacular with Perlman on the violin along with the majestic Russian National Orchestra (RNO), other milestone performances by Perlman at the Festival of the Arts BOCA will include one with his own students from the Perlman Music Program, a night of Klezmer Music in a reprise of "In the Fiddler's House", a bestselling album and popular PBS show and the grand finale as the maestro conducts the Russian National Orchestra, Master Chorale of South Florida and renowned vocal soloists in Beethoven's magisterial Ninth Symphony.
In addition to the blockbuster celebration of Itzhak Perlman's stellar musical career, The Festival of the Arts BOCA 2009 will once again feature a line-up that is filled with what can only be classified as the finest in classical music, jazz, and literature.
An Overview of Festival of the Arts BOCA 2009 March 5 - 15th 2009
On the musical front:
This year's event will headline legendary Mikhail Pletnev, a musical genius on many counts and the first Principal Conductor of the Russian National Orchestra (RNO), the orchestra in residence throughout the Festival, who will be on hand to lead the RNO throughout many of the evening performances. Also on hand and conducting on a separate evening devoted to "Music of the New World" is Alondra de la Parra, recently featured by the New York Times and hailed by Damian Fowler of Men's Vogue as a "maestra" that "gives classical music a new groove".
Other music virtuosos making an appearance at the 2009 Festival include such greats as: Nina Kotova, master of the cello and listed among ELLE Magazine's Top "25 Hot List"; Jeremy Denk, an accomplished pianist and the recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant as well as an artist in residence on NPR's Performance Today; and Ana Karina Alamo, a gifted Venezuelan pianist who was recently hosted at a private reception at the White House where she performed for President George W. Bush.
The grand finale with Itzhak Perlman at the baton will feature celebrated soloists soprano Layla Claire, recipient of the Queen Elizabeth International Music Competition, Grammy Award Winner mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor, and internationally renowned tenor John Tessier and bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen.
On the literary front:
The literary program is also expansive to be sure with five illustrious authors. Among these is the legendary Sir Salman Rushdie, author of numerous award-winning novels including: Midnight's Children, Satanic Verses and most recently The Enchantress of Florence.
The line-up also includes lectures by literary giants such as Shashi Tharoor, an internationally renowned statesman who was named "Global Leader of Tomorrow" by the World Economic Forum; Anthony Doerr whose collection of short stories received three O. Henry Prizes and who has been said to be among the best young American novelists; Jamaica Kincaid, whose moving chronicle, My Brother, a gripping story of her youngest brother during his losing battle with AIDS, won a National Book Award; and returning favorite, David Ebershoff, whose newest novel, The 19th Wife, released just this August, immediately catapulted to the New York Times Bestseller List.
