Patriot Fans Sidelined for Thursday Night Game With Jets

Patriot Fans Sidelined for Thursday Night Game With Jets

Comcast, Time Warner Still Not Offering NFL Network

ARLINGTON, Va., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Most Patriot fans across New England will be shut out of tonight's rematch with rival New York Jets because after three years of negotiations, Comcast and Time Warner -- the region's dominant cable companies -- still don't offer the NFL Network. Only fans in the Boston metropolitan area and Manchester, N.H., will be able to see tonight's game on ABC Network affiliates.

But, as Comcast and Time Warner fumble negotiations with the NFL Network, it may comfort Patriot fans to know that alternate cable providers are emerging across New England, and many will offer the NFL Network as a part of their service package. Consumers now have a choice of video providers in nearly 50 communities in Massachusetts and nearly 30 in New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

"As the Patriots gear up to continue their two year winning streak against the Jets, it looks like Comcast and Time Warner are punting for the third year in a row," said Lizanne Sadlier, Executive Director of TV4US. "Customers are tired of the battle between these big companies off the field. They just want to see the on-the-field action of tonight's game."

"With competition emerging throughout the region, cable customers in New England will soon have the option of choosing the video service that includes their favorite programming," said Sadlier.

As cable competition spreads throughout New England, consumers will have more power to demand programming -- like the NFL Network -- as well as lower prices and new, innovative technologies.

"Comcast and Time Warner have been unchallenged for years, but just as the Patriots face their rival tonight, its time for Comcast and Time Warner to get ready for the competition. To win, the companies can't sideline their customers," said Sadlier.

TV4US is a non-profit organization that includes among its members a diversified group of corporations, non-profit and non-governmental organizations -- representing hundreds of thousands of consumers across the country. We are a non-profit, grassroots coalition advocating on behalf of customers who deserve competitive alternatives, leading to lower cable bills and improved service. We believe that competition will bring more choices, better customer service, and advances in technology for consumers.
