WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Retirement Living TV (RLTV) the first network dedicated to adults 50+ and NBC News announced today a co-production of Daily Cafe, a one-hour live news and current affairs program. Scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, November 11 from noon - 1 p.m. EST, season three of Daily Cafe offers the best of RLTV and the best of NBC News.
The program will be broadcast live from Washington, D.C. and New York, the country's most influential cities, with hosts Fred Grandy in the nation's capital and Alex Witt at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan. Fred Grandy is a former four-term U.S. Congressional Representative from Iowa and the former President and CEO of Goodwill Industries. Alex Witt is an anchor and correspondent for MSNBC.
"We are happy to further develop our relationship with Retirement Living TV," said Cheryl Gould, Senior Vice President of NBC News. "The Daily Cafe partnership is a great way to share NBC News with a wider audience and specifically tailor our programming to fit the needs of mature adults."
During its first week, Daily Cafe will feature interviews with recording and film stars Elton John, Elvis Costello, Daniel Craig and George Hamilton. In the political arena, the program will feature the nation's most prominent political journalists fresh off of the campaign trail to give their viewpoint on the recent election and the newly elected President, Barack Obama.
At the top, middle and bottom of the program, NBC News briefs will be featured along with a nation-wide weather report. In addition to news briefs, the program will also present celebrity interviews and specialized segments for the designated audience. One such segment entitled "Healthy Living" features RLTV talent such as Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Dr. Kevin Soden and Sherry Parrish, along with NBC News Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Nancy Snyderman and NBC News Chief Health and Science Correspondent Robert Bazell discussing current health care issues and concerns from cholesterol worries to sex over fifty. To address the current economy and financial opportunities, Daily Cafe offers a segment entitled "Nest Egg" with NBC News contributor Jean Chatzky as well as Kiplinger's Senior Editor Mary Beth Franklin and RLTV's Karen Gibbs. "Nest Egg" offers up-to-the-minute advice to adults 50+ in the workforce and retirees dealing with the difficulties of today's economy. In addition, Gene Shalit and Willard Scott of NBC News' Today will contribute.
One of the most distinguishing features of Daily Cafe is the live call-in segments that occur throughout the program. Viewers are given the opportunity to play an active role in the discussions and issues presented and often lend unique perspectives to the topics at hand.
"The combined strength of NBC News and RLTV on-air talent, contributors and producers assures that this co-production of Daily Cafe will be a significant and valuable offering to the very substantial 50+ TV audience. Combining RLTV's experience in programming to this demographic with NBC News, a clear leader in broadcast journalism will produce a unique offering in the television landscape," said Elliot Jacobson, Vice President of Programming and Production, RLTV.
