Strong American Schools Official to Discuss the Undeniable Link Between Educating Americans and Securing America's Economic Standing

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A strong economy needs a well-educated workforce to drive it and while the economy continues to dominate the news, education is a constant issue for middle-Americans. Strong American Schools Executive Director, Marc Lampkin, will be in Columbus, OH addressing the 2008 National Value-Added Conference on Tuesday, October 7. Lampkin will discuss how America's economic prosperity is being jeopardized by the United States' failure to keep pace with the education gains of other industrialized countries.

Following the conference, Lampkin will lead a discussion after the screening of Two Million Minutes, a film which contrasts U.S. students with its international peers. The film is produced by Broken Pencil Productions (BPP) and tracks students in the United States, India and China as they are completing their high school diplomas and competing for entrance into college. The film shows evidence that America's students are not prepared to compete in the global economy and invites viewers to engage in a discussion about the issue.

Strong American Schools is a nonpartisan public awareness and advocacy effort aimed at elevating discussion among America's leaders about the need for education reform. The organization seeks to unite all Americans around the crucial mission of improving the nation's public schools by elevating the discussion to a national stage. The organization believes three common sense solutions should be included in education reform: effective teachers in every classroom, increased time and support for student learning and common, rigorous standards.
