David Cook Launches the 'Light On' Lighter App

An Interactive Digital Single Application For iPhone and iPod Touch, Available on Apple's App Store

"Light On" Debuted in the Top 10 on the Billboard Digital Songs Chart and was the #1 Most Added Song at Hot AC and One of the Fastest Growing Songs at the Format

NEW YORK, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- American Idol winner David Cook today launched the "Light On" interactive lighter application for iPhone and iPod touch, giving fans a deluxe version of his first single, "Light On," co-written by Chris Cornell and Brian Howe off his debut album. The "Light On" App is now available for download from Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/ and David Cook's debut album will be released on 19 Recordings / RCA Records on November 18th on the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com). "Light On" debuted in the Top 10 on the Billboard Digital Songs charts and was the #1 most added song at Hot AC and is one of the fastest growing songs at the format.

Cook states "I am really stoked about this application. I think it gives a different dynamic to the single and it is much safer than practicing pyromania. Not to mention, you won't burn your thumb!"

The interactive "Light On" App turns an iPhone or iPod touch into a "virtual" lighter while playing Cook's single "Light On." Using the iPhone's unique technology, fans simply "flick" the iPhone or iPod touch and the flame goes out while the song fades out. The application also provides links to the iTunes Store to listen and buy Cook's new hit single or pre-order his upcoming album. Additionally the application allows the user to send a message to a friend and links directly to DavidCookOfficial.com, where users can connect with each other.

"Mobile applications that connect artists with their fans in an entirely new way are game changing," says Wade Beavers, CEO of DoApp Inc., the web and mobile innovation company SONY BMG worked with to create the application. "This fun application enables David Cook to connect with his fans and give them something more than digital downloads."

In late September "Light On" premiered on AOL Music's pop culture news site, PopEater.com., receiving over 1 million plays in less than week. Cook has been busy in the studio, co-writing many of the upcoming album's tracks alongside some of music's hottest rock songwriters.

Earlier this summer Cook set the record for the most new entries by an artist in the 50-year history of the Hot 100, with 11 songs entering the chart dated June 7, 2008. That broke the record of six new entries in one week. Cook's 11 songs were led by "The Time of My Life," which debuted at No. 3, making it the highest new entry of 2008. "The Time of My Life" debuted at No 1 on two other charts, the Hot Digital Songs and the Hot Digital Tracks.

25 year old David Cook hails from Blue Springs, Missouri.
