Channel 7 Says 'Can Do' to the Hungry for the 31st Year

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 will once again join with Big Boy Restaurants and the Detroit Area And Clinton Valley Councils of the Boy Scouts of America, to sponsor Operation Can-Do. The 31st annual community service campaign collects and distributes food to the hungry in metropolitan Detroit.

Area Boy Scouts will kick off the 2008 campaign with a door-to-door "Scouting For Food" collection on Saturday, November 8th. Donations of canned goods to Operation Can-Do can be made at any Big Boy Restaurant in the Detroit metropolitan area through December 31st.

"Over the past three decades, this holiday tradition has provided the perfect opportunity for the community to contribute, feeding Michigan's hungry, half of whom reside in Metro Detroit," says Bob Sliva, WXYZ-TV Vice President and General Manager. "This year is especially important to help those in need with so many hit hard by the economy."

Last year's Operation Can-Do campaign brought in 225 tons of food to help feed families and individuals through soup kitchens and food banks in the tri-county area, feeding over 1.5 million people. Since its inauguration, the program has collected over 10 million pounds of food, providing over 20 million meals to the hungry of Metropolitan Detroit.
