This American Life Television Show Wins Two Emmys!!

CHICAGO, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The second season of This American Life, the critically acclaimed television series on Showtime, won two of the five Emmy awards for which it was nominated: Outstanding Nonfiction Series and Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming.

"When they called our names, it was truly a shock," says host and executive producer Ira Glass. "It was like one of those movies where they fake you out with an ending where everything goes wrong and the main character dies and you're sad and then A-Ha! Psych! And everything works out great. It was very exciting."

Winners were announced September 13, 2008 at the Creative Arts Emmy awards ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. This technical awards ceremony will broadcast on E! on September 20. The 60th annual primetime Emmy awards ceremony will be telecast live on ABC on September 21.

In 2007, Glass and his producers translated the wildly popular radio show into a TV series on Showtime, produced by Killer Films and Left/Right Productions. In its first season, the show received an International Documentary Association Award and Emmy nods for directing, writing and cinematography.

The second season also received Emmy nods for Outstanding Cinematography for Nonfiction Programming, Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming and Outstanding Writing for Nonfiction Programming.

Produced by Chicago Public Radio and distributed by Public Radio International, This American Life debuted in 1995 and is now heard by 1.7 million weekly listeners on more than 500 public radio stations nationwide. The radio show is one of the most popular podcasts in America, and has won many major broadcasting awards including the Peabody. For more info, and to download episodes, visit thisamericanlife.org.
