'The President's Own' Announces 2008 Concert Tour
WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "The President's Own" United States Marine Band will depart Washington, D.C., Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, for its annual fall concert tour, performing 29 concerts in 31 days throughout southwestern Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. The band will perform its first concert at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Bedford High School Auditorium in Bedford, Pa., and will conclude its national tour at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31 at Trinity High School Auditorium in Washington, Pa. Director Colonel Michael J. Colburn has adapted several concert programs to entertain the diverse audiences across the Midwest. Tour concerts will include music by John Philip Sousa, John Williams, Igor Stravinsky, Claude Debussy, Gustav Holst, and Dmitri Shostakovich. Each tour concert ends with a Salute to the Armed Forces of America, featuring all the military service songs in the Armed Forces Medley.
Concerts will highlight a variety of soloists including principal trombone Master Gunnery Sergeant Bryan Bourne playing William Goldstein's Colloquy, principal clarinetist Master Gunnery Sergeant Lisa Kadala and co-principal flute Master Gunnery Sergeant Betsy Hill performing Franz Danzi's Concertante in B-flat, and French horn player Gunnery Sergeant Hilary Hart playing Camille Saint-Saens' "Morceau de concert," Opus 94. The concerts will also feature mezzo-soprano vocalist Staff Sergeant Sara Dell'Omo singing Bolero from The Sicilian Vespers, selections by Cole Porter, and "There Won't Be Trumpets," from the musical Anyone Can Whistle.
