Stars Help Celebrate Women's Equality Day at Democratic Convention - Photo Links and Press Release

Democratic Women's Caucus Celebrates Women's Equality Day at Event Hosted by Lifetime Networks

- Women Leaders Call for Women to Register and Vote and Run for Office-

- More than 3,000 Delegates and Elected Officials Attend 'Women Making History' Event -

DENVER, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of the award-winning, nonpartisan Every Woman Counts campaign to encourage women to speak out on issues, vote and run for office, LIFETIME celebrated women's leadership by hosting the opening "Women Making History" session of the Democratic Women's Caucus.

Over three thousand delegates and elected officials listened while Senator Debbie Stabenow (MI), Representative Grace Napolitano (CA), Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL), Representative Niki Tsongas (MA), political strategist Donna Brazile, actresses Fran Drescher, Rosario Dawson and Eva Longoria, and other women leaders called on women to actively participate in the political process.

LIFETIME Networks CEO and President Andrea Wong opened the Caucus saying, "Today marks Women's Equality Day so it's fitting that we gather today to honor Women Making History. You just need to look around the room to recognize that we've made a lot of progress in 88 years. The women who have blazed the trail have shown us a profound truth, that when women participate, all women make progress. That's really the message of LIFETIME's Every Woman Counts campaign," said Wong.

"We are so excited to have LIFETIME's involvement in this historic caucus, said Mame Reiley, Democratic Women's Caucus Chair.

The Caucus's opening day coincided with Women's Equality Day which was established by Congress in 1971 to commemorate the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. Women's Equality Day also calls attention to women's continuing efforts toward full equality.

"We are 51% of the vote. We must galvanize to become a collective voice on Capitol Hill," said actress Fran Drescher, Executive Director of the Cancer Schmancer Foundation.

"My grandmother voted, my mother voted and they instilled in me the importance of making your voice be heard. Now, I am so excited my goddaughter aspires to be President, not the President's wife," said actress Rosario Dawson, Co-Founder of Voto Latino.

Actress Eva Longoria dropped by the event saying, "I'm here to represent all the desperate housewives who are in this room."

LIFETIME will also host the closing session of the Caucus on Thursday, when Michelle Obama is expected to address the delegates at the "Women Shaping History" session. Both sessions are being held at the Four Seasons Ballroom, Colorado Convention Center, 700 14th Street in Denver.

Every Woman Counts Convention events will continues later tonight with a Late-Night Celebration hosted by LIFETIME Networks and Rock the Vote from 10 pm to 1 am at the Cowboy Lounge in LoDo, 1941 Market Street (between 19th and 20th Streets) Denver.
