Legend Silicon and TCL Jointly Promote iDTV With High-Definition Experience for Olympic Fans in Beijing

FREMONT, Calif., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Legend Silicon Corporation, a leading technology company delivering semiconductor solutions for terrestrial digital TV (DTV), today announced that it joined forces with TCL, one of China's largest television makers, to demonstrate integrated digital television (iDTV) technology in Beijing during the 2008 Olympic Games. The companies showcased the sporting events in high-definition digital TV at displays in major shopping malls, residential areas and other prominent public venues throughout Beijing.

TCL's iDTVs are powered by Legend Silicon's most advanced single chip demodulator, the LGS-8G52, which is fully compliant with the China digital terrestrial television broadcast (DTTB) standard GB20600-2006. The LGS-8G52 is the third generation of the full GB20600-2006 standard compliant demodulator from Legend Silicon. It offers the industry leading performance in all the transmission modes and its advanced technology ensures that TCL's iDTV can deliver the best quality.

TCL's iDTVs provide three ways for consumers to watch television programs, significantly expanding available options for Chinese viewers. These include (1) free-to-air terrestrial digital TV in both high-definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) formats; (2) digital cable TV in both HD and SD formats; and (3) traditional analog TV. The new iDTV from TCL also enables Chinese consumers to enjoy digital HD and SD television programs without an additional set-top box.

"As a Chinese leader in home electronics, TCL is an important partner to us. Using our LGS-8G52 demodulator, TCL has incorporated the optimal single-chip solution available in the market, further strengthening its new iDTV offering," said Dr. Yeliang Shan, vice president of sales at Legend Silicon. "With the launch of these high-performance solutions into the GB20600 market, Legend Silicon and TCL strengthen their strategic relationships within the terrestrial digital TV industry."

"The joint road show with Legend Silicon will further deepen the cooperation between us," said Lu Li, deputy general manager of TCL's Multi-media China Business Center. "Together, with the advantages of each company's technologies and expertise, we will be able to better understand the requirements of consumers, promote the iDTV markets and increase sales, helping consumers enjoy the high-definition experience."

At the 2008 China International Consumer Electronics Expo, TCL's full-GB Digital iDTV won a number of prestigious consumer awards, including "2008 China Flat Panel Top 10," "Consumers' Favorite Flat Panel Brand in 2008" and "High-Definition TV Industry Progress in 2008.", In a recent Internet survey by the People's Network about the brand of flat panel TV on which consumers most liked to watch Olympics, TCL's iDTV won the title of "the most popular iDTV."

The 2008 Olympics Games is one of the first major events that resulted in hours of HDTV programming. The Olympics enabled Legend Silicon, TCL and others in the DTV market to demonstrate improved quality and value-added features of the HDTV national terrestrial standard, GB20600-2006.
