The POTUS '08 channel will go far beyond the traditional media's approach to the conventions. It will air complete, gavel-to-gavel coverage of the events, plus round-the-clock news and interviews with party insiders, reporters, pundits, protestors, and bloggers. During the overnight hours, the channel will recap the convention highlights of the previous day. POTUS '08 anchors will report from a skybox overlooking the convention floor at both events, with additional reporters inside and outside the venues.
"POTUS '08 is the first and only radio channel dedicated to a presidential election 24 hours a day," said Kevin Straley, XM senior vice president of news, sports, and talk programming. "The channel has been reporting on the presidential campaign nonstop for the last ten months, and we're bringing that same, intense level of coverage to the conventions. While other media outlets are only carrying the primetime speeches, we will air everything that's happening on the podium throughout the day. We'll be talking to everybody from the insiders working behind the scenes to protestors outside the arenas. We're live from the opening gavel to the final speeches by Barack Obama and John McCain. And there will be no commercial interruptions."
POTUS '08 anchors Joe Mathieu, Rebecca Roberts, and Scott Walterman will report from the Democratic convention in Denver August 25-28. Anchors Tim Farley, Mathieu, and Walterman will be at the Republican convention in St. Paul September 1-4. During each convention, anchor Adrienne Mitchell will report on the opposing party from Washington, D.C.
In advance of the conventions, POTUS '08 is airing a weekly interview segment with the convention organizers in St. Paul and Denver as they enter the final stages of preparation. Representatives of the Republican National Committee and Democratic National Committee are also appearing on POTUS '08 every weekday morning to talk about the campaign.
POTUS '08 is XM channel 130. The term POTUS -- pronounced "POH-tus" -- is an abbreviation used by White House officials for President of the United States. The nonpartisan, commercial-free channel is heard nationwide on XM radios for the car, home, and portable use. POTUS '08 was recently named one of the ten most important voices of this election year by Best Life magazine.
