Cowboys & Indians Magazine Celebrates Willie Nelson: Still on the Road at 75
DALLAS, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Willie Nelson -- part cowboy, part Indian, all icon -- is the main attraction in the September issue of Cowboys and Indians, The Premier Magazine of The West, now on sale everywhere. In a cover-story profile, Joe Nick Patoski -- author of the new biography "Willie Nelson: An Epic Life" -- describes the Country music icon as immensely proud of his Cherokee roots, and avidly supportive of Native American causes. And, yes, he's still on the road, still making music with his friends.

"Even at 75," Patoski writes, "he's on the road more than he's off. But when he's not touring, you're most likely to find ol' Willie on Honeysuckle Rose IV, his biodiesel-powered touring bus, kind of a modern version of a stagecoach and then some, as if he was fixing to go somewhere even when he isn't. He's a restless, roaming type because he really is a cowboy."
Elsewhere in the September issue, which is dedicated to Indian art and culture, award-winning Lakota author Joseph M. Marshall III pays tribute to 15 notable Native Americans -- ranging from legendary warrior Geronimo to Operation Iraqi Freedom hero Lori Piestewa -- who have defined Native culture by what they did and what they stood for. Wolf Schneider offers an introduction to seven contemporary Native American ledger artists, Emily Sacher interviews Cherokee mask maker Roger Cain, and C&I contributor David Hofstede goes on location for the filming of "Mile Post 398," the first feature-length movie produced by Native Americans using an all-Navajo cast and crew.
And speaking of movies: Actor Josh Brolin talks about his upcoming role as President George W. Bush in "W," Oliver Stone's bound-to-be-controversial film about the 43rd President of the United States, in a lively "Live From" Q&A interview.
