Brackin Promoted to General Manager of Scripps Newspaper in San Angelo, Texas
CINCINNATI, July 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Rebekah Brackin, an experienced newspaper professional with extensive online credentials, has been named general manager of the San Angelo Standard-Times, the Scripps-owned daily newspaper serving San Angelo and western Texas.
Brackin, 45, joined the Standard-Times in 2000 and has served as its community news editor, advertising product development manager, advertising sales representative, and, most recently, director of marketing and online operations. Brackin begins her new role today.
"Becky is a dynamic leader who shares the Scripps belief that success at a daily newspaper is the result of serving our readers and online users exceptionally well," said Mark Contreras, senior vice president of newspapers for The E. W. Scripps Company. "What makes Becky stand out is that she is the first person with deep, first-hand experience in the interactive field to be promoted to general manager. Becky's interactive expertise and dedication to San Angelo will be an asset to the newspaper and will be noticed quickly by the readers, online users and advertisers in San Angelo."
As general manager, Brackin will have oversight responsibility for the newspaper's advertising, circulation, production, marketing, online, human resources, and information technology departments. She will report to the president and publisher.
Brackin's promotion helps prepare the newspaper for its leadership transition. In January, the company announced that Bob Aguilar, Standard-Times president and publisher, will retire at the end of 2008.
"Becky is a product of our community and is in tune with the region's needs," Aguilar said. "She will continue to serve San Angelo in an exemplary fashion as she has for the past 20 years."
During her tenure at the Standard-Times, Brackin has focused on communications and marketing efforts, which earned awards from the San Angelo Advertising Federation and the Newspaper Association of America's Association of Classified and Marketing Executives.
From 1997 to 2000, Brackin was the director of public relations for the San Angelo Independent School District. She served the previous eight years as the district's coordinator for special projects and parental involvement. While with the district, Brackin received awards from the National School Public Relations Association and the Texas School Public Relations Association for her dedication to community partnerships and student mentoring.
Brackin serves on the board of directors for the San Angelo Business and Education Coalition and is the moderator for the transportation, communications, and community-agency sessions of Leadership San Angelo, a program sponsored by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce. She is also serving as chair of the media division campaign for United Way this year.
Brackin has been president of the boards of directors for the Children's Advocacy Center of Tom Green County and the Leadership San Angelo Alumni Association, and has served on the boards of the Texas Association of Partners in Education, YMCA, San Angelo Kiwanis Club, and San Angelo Schools Foundation. She was chair of the 2002 Pacesetter Campaign for United Way.
The San Angelo native received her bachelor's degree from Angelo State University. She and her husband, Mark, have two children.
