Top Honors Given to WFAA-TV, KGW-TV, WCNC-TV and KVUE-TV

DALLAS, July 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Belo Corp. (NYSE:BLC) announced today that Belo television stations have won four national Edward R. Murrow Awards for 2008. The awards recognized WFAA-TV in Dallas/Fort Worth for its Web site, KGW-TV in Portland for Continuing Coverage, WCNC-TV in Charlotte for Sports Reporting, and KVUE-TV in Austin for Videography. The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presents the Murrow Awards annually to honor outstanding achievements in electronic journalism and recognize news organizations that set the standard in the broadcast news profession.

This year's awards bring the total number of national Murrow Awards Belo stations have received to 23 since 2000, more than any other television group. Belo's 2008 national awards follow an impressive showing in the 2008 regional competitions where 11 Belo stations garnered 32 regional Murrow Awards.

"These awards reflect the ongoing dedication and commitment Belo television stations have to delivering outstanding journalism to our local communities," said Peter L. Diaz, Belo executive vice president/Television Operations. "This year is playing out as a year of true journalistic distinction for our Company. In 2008, Belo stations have been honored with three Alfred I. duPont Awards, one George Foster Peabody Award and two Service to America Awards, along with these prestigious Edward R. Murrow Awards."

Details follow about the national Murrow Awards given to Belo stations:

-- In the large-market television category, WFAA, Belo's ABC station in Dallas/Fort Worth, was recognized as the outstanding broadcast affiliate for its Web site, wfaa.com. This is the second year in a row that a Belo station has been honored in this category.

-- Also in the large-market television category, KGW, Belo's NBC affiliate in Portland, won the national Murrow for its Continuing Coverage of the three-day wind and rain storm that engulfed the Northwest last December.

-- WCNC, Belo's NBC station in Charlotte, was given top honors for Sports Reporting in the large-market category for "A League of Their Own," a story of a local citizen who convinced his community to build a special baseball park and start a little league for handicapped children. This is the second consecutive year WCNC was awarded a national Murrow in this category.

-- In the small-market television category, KVUE, Belo's ABC station in Austin, was recognized for Videography for "Seaholm Swan Song," a feature story about the Seaholm Power Plant which was re-purposed as a venue for the performing arts.

The RTNDA announced a total of 26 national Edward R. Murrow Awards for television stations in the large and small-market television categories this year. The winners in all categories will be honored at the RTNDA Awards Dinner on October 13, 2008 in New York. The Edward R. Murrow Awards have recognized outstanding achievements in electronic journalism since 1971. They promote the spirit of excellence that Edward R.
