Sony Pictures Classics Acquires Atom Egoyan's Film, 'Adoration'
A Modern Drama Of Teens Reimagining Themselves Through The Internet
NEW YORK, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- It was announced today that Sony Pictures Classics acquired U.S. rights, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand to Atom Egoyan's eleventh film "Adoration." "Adoration" re-teams the Oscar-nominated director ("The Sweet Hereafter") with producer Robert Lantos ("Eastern Promises") who has been involved in seven of Egoyan's films and re-teams Lantos with Sony Pictures Classics. Their last collaboration was on "Being Julia" which garnered an Oscar nomination for its star, Annette Bening in 2005. The film will have its world premiere in the official competition at the Cannes International Film Festival on May 22nd.
"Adoration" speaks to our connections -- with each other, with our family history, with technology and with the modern world.
Sabine, a high school French teacher, gives her class a translation exercise based on a real news story about a terrorist who plants a bomb in the airline luggage of his pregnant girlfriend.
The assignment has a profound effect on one student, Simon, who reads his version to the class and then takes it to the Internet. He has created a false identity, which allows him to probe a family secret. As Simon uses his new persona to journey deeper into his past, the public reaction is swift and strong. Then an exotic woman revels her true identity and the truth about Simon's family emerges. The film stars Arsinee Khanjian ("Ararat," "Felicia's Journey"), Scott Speedman ("Underworld") Rachel Blanchard ("Snakes on a Plane") and Devon Bostick.
"I'm thrilled to be working with Sony Pictures Classics on 'Adoration,'" stated Egoyan. "Michael and Tom were vital in introducing my work to the U.S. in the early nineties, and this will be a great opportunity to work together again. They're the perfect distributor for this film."
Comments Robert Lantos, "In Michael and Tom's nurturing hands 'Adoration' has found a perfect home."
Sony Pictures Classics released the following statement: "Atom is at the peak of his form with 'Adoration.'" This is an overwhelmingly satisfying movie that speaks to the emotional complexity of our modern lives. It goes with out saying that it is a pleasure and privilege to be working again with Atom and Robert."
Executive produced by Robert Lantos, "Adoration" is produced by Egoyan, Simone Urdl and Jennifer Weiss ("Away From Her"), with Marcy Gerstein as associate producer. Director of photography is Paul Sarossy, production designer is Phillip Barker, costume designer is Debra Hanson and Susan Shipton is editor.
