Nursing Shortage Spurs Campaign to Change the Image of Nursing in the Media

Healthcare staffing company to launch nationally-syndicated television show.

SAN DIEGO, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Healthcare staffing company Access Nurses announced today a national campaign to change the image of nursing in the media. The campaign launches with a 26-episode television program about the real lives of nurses working on the front lines of modern healthcare. The show, Nurse TV, will premier this fall on more than 100 television stations across the country.

As the nursing shortage poses mounting concerns about the future quality of healthcare, Access Nurses is determined to help recruitment efforts. Access Nurses CEO Alan Braynin believes "the Nurse TV campaign will help promote the nursing profession as a rewarding and valuable career."

Over the past few years, healthcare professionals have debated the potential damage that negative and inaccurate nursing images have had on public perception and nurse recruiting. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that the country will have more than 600,000 unfilled nursing positions by the year 2020. Currently, the nursing shortage is being felt in thousands of healthcare facilities across the United States. The television show will highlight nurses' skills and empowering stories in a way no program has done before.

To kick off National Nurse Week, which runs from May 6 to May 12, 2008, Nurse TV producers have announced a national casting call for nurses to appear on the show.

"We are looking for nurses who are full of passion and heart, with stories captivating enough to match their personalities," says Nurse TV Executive Producer Matthew Glasser.

Nurses interested in being considered for the television show can submit video applications at NurseTV.com by uploading a two-to-five-minute video that highlights their personality and nursing experiences.

Registered Nurses in all clinical settings are encouraged to participate in the casting call.
