John Hiatt's Same Old Man to be Released May 27 on New West Records

Americana Music Association Honors Hiatt with Lifetime Achievement in Songwriting Award

NEW YORK, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- On May 27, New West Records will release John Hiatt's new full length album Same Old Man. His first release since 2005's critically acclaimed Master of Disaster, the highly anticipated Same Old Man is already receiving critical acclaim. Of the record, Performing Songwriter says, it combines "...evocative sentiment, subtle humor and melodies that blaze their way into the consciousness effortlessly and effusively." As an added bonus, the album will be made available as a Limited Edition 180 gram vinyl record.

Same Old Man was recorded at Highway 61 Recordings and was produced and engineered by Hiatt himself. Of the music, Hiatt explains, "I think it's a pretty stripped down record. It's pretty straight ahead. It's all about me this record because I didn't have anybody to argue with basically. So it's vocals right up front, the song is front and center, and the backing is minimal." Also appearing on the album are Kenneth Blevins on drums, Patrick O'Hearn on bass and Luther Dickinson on guitar, mandolin and national resonator. John's daughter, Lilly Hiatt, also sings harmony on two tracks, "Love You Again" and "What Love Can Do."

John Hiatt's career as a performer and songwriter has spanned more than 30 years and his work has been covered by everyone from Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and BB King to Iggy Pop, Three Dog Night and The Neville Brothers. Hiatt began his solo career with the 1974 album Hangin' Around the Observatory. His landmark 1987 release Bring The Family received critical praise and was his first album to chart in the U.S. In 1993, Rhino Records released Love Gets Strange: The Songs of John Hiatt, which collected many of the cover versions of his songs that were recorded during the 80s and 90s. 2000's Crossing Muddy Waters was released to critical acclaim and was called "The most natural and relaxed John Hiatt album in years..." by All Music Guide. In recognition of his work, the Americana Music Association will honor Hiatt with their prestigious Lifetime Achievement in Songwriting Award. The ceremony will take place at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on September 18 during the Association's annual festival and conference.
