'Mr. Overly-Enthusiastic PowerPoint User' joins 'Mr. Automatic Towel Inventor Guy' for Securian All-Company Meeting

'Mr. Overly-Enthusiastic PowerPoint User' joins 'Mr. Automatic Towel Inventor Guy' for Securian All-Company Meeting

ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Securian Financial Group, a large employer in downtown St. Paul, is a hotbed of hilarity on the second Tuesday of every February.

This year, Securian's 2,300-plus employees make their half-mile trek en masse through the skyway system to the River Centre February 12 for their annual All-Company Meeting. There, accompanied by howls of laughter, customized lyrics for maddeningly familiar jingles, and a CEO and president who good-naturedly contribute to the hijinks, they enjoy an hour-long, themed variety show of live action and video that recaps the year's corporate successes. This year's production, "Securian Idol," is the latest in a 35-year run of shows that features actors, singers, dancers, writers, producers, and musicians from the ranks of Securian's employees.

The All-Company Meeting often satirizes TV shows, complete with "commercials." This year, the spots throughout "Securian Idol" include send-ups of familiar radio spots with "Mr. Automatic Towel Inventor Guy" and "Mr. Overly Enthusiastic PowerPoint User," which refer to familiar aspects of corporate life with humor that is unique to Securian.

"Our CEO, Bob Senkler, has the philosophy that, if you're not having fun at work, you're not doing it right," said Steve Wolff, director, Corporate Communications and executive producer of the All-Company Meeting. "His sense of humor and willingness to participate set the stage for zany humor that pokes gentle fun at ourselves while celebrating our successes and reinforcing our corporate culture."

The satire builds to the climax at the end of the meeting when Senkler announces the percentage of salary the company will contribute in 2008 to all employees' defined contribution retirement plans. All employees receive the same percentage contribution regardless of how much -- or whether -- they themselves contribute to their retirement plans.

The 2008 Securian All-Company Meeting starts at 9:00 AM Tuesday, February 12 at the River Centre on Kellogg Boulevard between Washington and Seventh Streets.
