Movie 'Vantage Point' Tied to Cellphone 3D Virtual World 'Lamity' Ahead of Premiere

Movie 'Vantage Point' Tied to Cellphone 3D Virtual World 'Lamity' Ahead of Premiere

TOKYO, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- EitaroSoft, Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment (Japan) Inc. today announced a new undertaking in cyberspace, reproducing scenes and a plot similar to those of the movie 'Vantage Point' in the cellphone 3D virtual world 'Lamity,' ahead of its premiere.

* Lamity *

This is a 3D virtual world service made available on the cellphone screen. Such a service previously required a high-performance personal computer. But 'Lamity' enables easy participation in a virtual world with a cellphone. All 'Lamity' townscapes are displayed in 3D representation and up to 400 people can simultaneously participate in one town, more than in the Second Life virtual world. 'Lamity' is being developed as the next generation of communication that can be newly experienced with the use of 3D avatars, eclipsing conventional text-based SNS communication.

'Vantage Point'

This is an action-packed thriller, repeatedly depicting in a novel manner eight different viewpoints of as many characters who witnessed the moment of an assassination of the president of the United States. Starred as Secret Service agents pursuing the viewpoints are Dennis Quaid, who captivates spectators into the movie world with his reputable acting skills, and his colleague Matthew Fox, who played the lead role in the popular drama 'LOST.' Also in the leading cast are Forest Whitaker, winner of the 79th Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in 'The Last King of Scotland,' William Hurt, another Oscar for Best Actor winner for his role in 'Kiss of the Spider Woman,' who was nominated as an Oscar candidate in many other movies, and Sigourney Weaver, an Oscar nominee in 'Alien 2' and other movies. 'Vantage Point' is scheduled to hit the screen at Salonpas Lourvre Marunouchi and other theaters across Japan from March 8.

'Vantage Point x Lamity'

Ahead of the launch of the service, a public square in Salamanca, Spain, where 'Vantage Point' is set, has been reproduced in the 'Lamity' virtual world. Participants can become Secret Service agents who are the protagonists in the movie and seek to resolve the presidential assassination case, exactly like in the film, in cooperation with other participants (including through exchanges of information). It is a totally new undertaking based on cyberspace.

Participants can deepen their interest in the movie by experiencing Secret Service roles in resolving the case like the leading characters and, at the same time, enjoy themselves during the period leading up to the March 8 premiere through communication with other simultaneous participants. They can also enjoy a video trailer of the movie at a virtual world cinema set up in the Salamanca square.
