Chuck Norris' World Combat League Makes Season Debut on VERSUS Sunday Night at 7 PM ET

Season 2 opens with match up of Western Conference powerhouses

DALLAS, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- One of combat martial arts' most explosive and charismatic personalities, Raymond Daniels, leads the L.A. Stars against a potent Oklahoma Destroyers lineup, featuring Jesse "The Bodyrocka" Lawrence and Thomas "Thunderkick" Longacre, when the 2007-08 World Combat League makes its season debut on VERSUS Sunday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. ET.

This match up starts a 20-week run for the WCL on VERSUS, culminating with the league's championship on June 29. All bouts will air on Sunday night at 7 p.m. ET. Check local listings for additional airings.

"There's no better way for the league to open the season than to showcase a talent like Raymond Daniels," said the league's founder and martial arts legend Chuck Norris. "He's a special talent and he's part of a very dynamic team. Lots of people are picking L.A. and Oklahoma as the teams to beat in the Western Conference, so it'll be exciting to see what happens."

Daniels, a former world karate champion, is undefeated in his World Combat League career. His brash, flamboyant in-ring persona has drawn comparisons among fans to a young Muhammad Ali. "I don't know if I would go that far," said Norris. "That's pretty heady company. But (Daniels) is certainly entertaining and can back up his bravado."

Each WCL team consists of six fighters (including one female) and each individual fights two 3-minute rounds. "Our matches are non-stop action," said Norris. "It's the most exciting three minutes of combat martial arts anywhere. The athletes get into the ring and go full throttle. In fact, the WCL had a 34-percent knockout rate last season, which is tops anywhere. If a fighter tries to slow the pace of the fight down, they will be penalized for passivity."

"We're a long-term player on the combat martial arts landscape. The WCL has been a 30-year dream of mine, and I'm very pleased to see how quickly it was embraced by fans and even me. There is a hunger out there for team combat martial arts that put skill and athleticism ahead of hype and brutality. It's a stand up combat sport. We are doing what the spectators want, 'Knock outs not tap outs.' That's the WCL's approach."
