Canadian Company Announces the World's Fastest Free Video Download Service
Fusenet comes out of beta with version Fusebox 1.0 and announces first client, Graboid Inc.
TORONTO, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Fusenet Inc. announced today that it has released version 1.0 of its patent-pending technology for streaming and downloading content from ISPs around the world. They also announced that after several months of beta-testing with an initial group of 160,000 customers, their first client, Graboid Inc. (http://www.graboid.com/), is releasing a free video streaming and high-speed downloading service to the general public.
Graboid spokesperson Ryan Van Barneveld says, "We chose Fusebox because it's the only software that can stream video off ISP bulletin-board based servers like Usenet. And the speeds they can achieve for downloading videos is literally the fastest in the world for any free service. Fusebox is the only client that maxes out a user's Internet connection. During our beta trials, users reported that a standard DSL connection allowed them to download a 2-hour video in 30 minutes or less."
Graboid is using Fusebox to provide a free video service that they say will give content owners a mechanism to promote and eventually sell their video content to a worldwide audience that they expect to grow rapidly. Fusebox does not allow sharing of files, or uploading of material for sharing, as it aims to stay away from legal problems that have plagued file sharing services like Kazaa and Napster. Fusebox is likened to Internet Explorer or Firefox as a simple browser for video files.
Van Barneveld adds, "Our service is quite different from something like YouTube because it's all feature-length. There are literally hundreds of sites out there that provide low-quality links to video on the net, but Fusebox allows a user to watch nearly 70,000 video files online in normal TV or even high-definition broadcast quality."
According to Fusenet, their contract with Graboid is exclusive for video content; however, they are in negotiations to potentially license Fusebox to other digital media services.
