Ray-Ban Presents Ray-Ban RockBand Bar at Sundance Film Festival 2008
Featuring Five-part Concert Series & Classic Movie Screenings
NEW YORK, Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Iconic sunglass brand Ray-Ban has announced that they will be hosting a five part concert series taking place at the Ray-Ban RockBand Bar in Park City, Utah, in coordination with the Sundance Film Festival. The themed Ray-Ban RockBand Bar, hosted at favorite local spot Monkey Bar, will be open from 7pm -- 2am, beginning January 17th and will run through January 21st, 2008, with a different artist performing each day.
The series will kick off on Thursday, January 17th when local band The Future of the Ghost opens for our GARAGE ROCK NIGHT. On Friday, January 18th the New York-based SUPER DJ trio, The MisShapes will perform. On Saturday, January 19th our PUNK IS DEAD party themed party will include a performance by local punk band Negative Charge and a giveaway of 25 signed copies of the newly released book Punk is Dead. On Sunday, the Ray-Ban Rock Bar plays host to MTV's ROCK BAND and turns the space into one big karaoke party. Up-and- comer George Sanford will perform to close the Ray-Ban RockBand Bar music series on Monday, January 21st.
During the day, from 12pm -- 5pm, large, flat-screen televisions will be set up around the Ray-Ban RockBand Bar so patrons can view film classics that feature iconic Ray-Ban styles, including:
-- The 1969 cult classic, Easy Rider written by and starring Peter Fonda,
Dennis Hopper and Terry Southern, is the ultimate road movie. Featuring
a stellar cast and memorable quotes, this movie is sure to get even the
most conservative festival goer into the lounge wearing their best
American flag adorned leather and buckskin pants.
-- This 1978 Saturday Night Live sketch turned movie classic is the
ultimate pop culture gem. Starring Dan Aykroyd and the late John
Belushi, The Blues Brothers will forever be one of the most iconic
movies of our time. This sketch, turned band, turned movie, turned
classic can still be seen today being parodied on TV, movies and music
videos.
-- The 1992 Sundance Film Festival debut of Quentin Tarantino's cult
classic Reservoir Dogs quickly established Tarantino's talent and
helped catapult him to legendary status. The critically acclaimed film
follows six criminals hired to pull off a seemingly perfect crime which
then goes horribly awry.
-- The 2007 futuristic sci-fi thriller Sunshine follows a team of
astronauts in their quest to save the Sun from dying. Directed by Danny
Boyle, Sunshine features an ensemble cast comprised of Cillian Murphy,
Chris Evans, Cliff Curtis, Michelle Yeoh and Rose Byrne.
In addition to hosting the Ray-Ban RockBand Bar concert and movie series, the brand will also be presenting Quentin Tarantino with the Ray-Ban Visionary Award on Sunday, January 20th, followed by a performance from The Bravery taking place upstairs at Harry O's.
The Ray-Ban RockBand Bar will also feature MTV Games' and Harmonix's ROCK BAND where Sundance attendees can live out their ultimate rock star fantasies on the main stage as lead / bass guitarist, drummer or as the lead singer of their very own virtual band from Thursday, January 17th through Saturday, January 26th.
The Ray-Ban Visionary Award in partnership with The Creative Coalition is in its 6th year and is proud to honor the work and dedication of an individual who possesses extraordinary passion, creativity and leadership, and whose work showcases vision, imagination and originality. Previous award winners include actors Aaron Eckhart, Matt Dillon, Kevin Bacon, President of HBO Films Colin Callender and EVP/COO New Line Productions and President of Fine Line Features Mark Ordesky.
The Bravery is an American rock band, originating in New York City, whose sound is a combination of disco and synth rock. Their 2005 self-titled debut album reached the top twenty charts in the United States and top five in the United Kingdom. Their latest album, The Sun and the Moon, was released in 2007 to much critical acclaim and features the singles "Believe" and "Time Won't Let Me Go." The band has recently toured with Incubus and The Smashing Pumpkins.
